Why this site?
There is an apologia explaining ourselves. But the very concept of ethical economics, other than to a few in academic circles, is not widely understood. This is the inspiration for The Centre for Ethical Economics and indeed for this site.
To put the concept of ethical economics at it’s simplest: an example:-
When economies of the various countries “overheat” the conventional solution has been for their central banks to increase interest rates.
i.e. to get economies right the rich are made richer and the poor poorer.
Whether this works, particularly in it’s contrary application as at present, may be doubted.
But is this - or has it been - a moral solution?
Is it not time for judgements on economic matters to be based on widely accepted ethical/moral concepts, rather than on political avoidance of using other solutions or as far as individuals are concerned on personal greed?
This is the starting point. Please move to “Forward“.
